So let me get this straight.

If you buy an All-in-one System with some nice tall thin speakers, it will come with a DVD player because the speakers connect directly to the DVD player. Therefore the speakers can only be used by the DVD player and there’s no way to plug in, say, the HDMI connection from my PS3.

When you buy separates, you buy a big ugly chunky surround sound Amp that wont fit under my TV, and some annoyingly bulky and wide speakers that wont fit next to my TV.

Computer speakers seem to have the right idea, put the amp and the inputs on the subwoofer, but they only come with one set of audio inputs and crappy little speakers.

Is there nothing out there that comes with

1. the tall, slim speakers of an All-in-one System
2. the multitude of input/output options of a separates setup
3. the simplicity and space saving of computer speakers

(and at the risk of a million audiophiles comparing me to their wives) in a package that looks good and everything matches?

Re: So let me get this straight.

The Samsung HTAS1 seems to be a good fit for what your after.
If youre interested I would urge you to check out this thread:

Any thoughts on SAMSUNG - HTAS1

BTW: Most current dvd all in one systems include ways to connect other components. The more modern components, e.g your ps3 connect audio mainly through optical (spdif/TosLink) as this can carry all the data for 5.1 surround sound through one cable instead of 5!

Separates / AV amps & receivers have multiple video and audio connections so all audio visual equipment can be routed to your tv through a single connection, e.g hdmi. Useful if you have 1 hdmi port on your tv but more than 1 hdmi capable device.

Hope this helps

Re: So let me get this straight.

Can I also just ask a noob question.

I'm unsure if an all in one or seperates system is what I should go for but basically I'm getting an M87 40" tv tomorrow. I have Sky and a 360 plus a 4 year old dvd player.

What would you recommend out of the two?

Re: So let me get this straight.

Okay thanks. That does suit my needs right now. When I have a better job and live in a bigger place I can think about 50” plasmas and £1000 audio equipment, but this’ll do for now.
