Buying Sony DAV-DZ630 - Need advice

i am thinking of buying the Sony DAV-DZ630, could anybody give me their thoughts of why i should or shouldnt buy this system.

i am open to suggestions to similar systems if anybody wants to recommend one.

i am after a system with front speakers like the sonys as i will be mounting these on the wall beside the 43" LG TV i have, i want longish slim one like the sonys.

i also want a system which will upscale to 1080, hoping to connect my PS3 and ipod.

budget of up to £400

Re: Buying Sony DAV-DZ630 - Need advice

I have recently bought the DZ830 from Pixmania for about £370, and decided on it over the 630 because of the optical input (as opposed to phono in the 630) for Sky HD connection. I think your ipod (I don't own one) can be connected via the Digital Media Port which would be extra, but you may be able to connect it via the phono in socket somehow. I don't have a PS3 either, so I'm not sure how it might connect in. It may be better to connect the video aspect directly to the TV with audio going to the Sony unit via digital coax / optical.

It also has the added bonus of wireless rear speakers meaning no trailing cables right round the room. I think it may only upscale to 720p - does your PS3 not upscale to 1080?

As you already have the PS3 which plays DVD's, you may want to consider a cinema system without a DVD player, such as the HT SF1100 which has HDMI input & output. I think they cost about £250 odd, but have no wireless rear speakers.

thanks graham

since i started this thread i was thinking about the HT SF1100. as you have said i have a PS3 which will play my DVD's so should save a bit of money buying a system without a DVD.

anybody got any views on this system, did i read someone say somewhere that there is a new version coming out soon, SF2100?

Now I'm worried! Tomorrow I get my Sony 40W3000 with the DAV-DZ830W. I'm afraid now the picture will suffer without full upscaling. Is there a way to upgrade, or is a new one imminent?
Thanks
John

Re: Buying Sony DAV-DZ630 - Need advice

That's the problem with buying an all-in-one system I'm afraid - upgrading isn't possible as the amp & DVD player are one unit. With a separates system you can decide what type of DVD player you want, can upgrade when you want, replace if broken etc.

As I have no experience of Full HD, I don't know what the difference in picture quality will be like in terms of upscaled 720p vs 1080p, or even against BluRay or HDDVD. Maybe someone else can chip in?
