I’m looking to buy a 5.1 surround sound system but lack the space for a proper setup, so I turned to digital sound projectors as a means of creating the desired surround sound effect. I considered the Yamaha YSP at first, but even sound projectors that use sound reflection are unsuitable for the type of room I have.

The Sony RHT G800 offers the ideal solution since it doesn’t rely on sound reflection, but the very few reviews I’ve read for the product don’t rate it as highly as the YSP. I know sound projection will never rival a true 5.1 setup, but which would be the better option, the RHT G800 or a high quality 2.1 system? I was thinking something like the Eclipse TD307PA II with the 316SW subwoofer. Ideally I’d prefer a 2.1 system with desktop speakers, and I’ve read the Eclipses’ are the best, but if anyone has any other recommendations please let me know.
