Pioneer playback problem. Any ideas?

Hi all. First post.

A problem has arisen with my Pioneer home cinema system (model XV-DV222)which has me completely baffled. Until recently it would play absolutely any type of disc but has suddenly refused to play shop bought "genuine" DVD's. Copies etc play fine, but all I get with kosher discs is a No Disc error message on the display.

While it's not a serious problem, (I'm getting the Panny 850ebk soon and this unit will be relegated to the bedroom) it's just bugging me. Why would it suddenly start doing this, and is there a way to put it right that I'm missing somewhere?

Hopefully one of the experts on this forum will know. Many thanks in advance.

it more than likely is the laser calibration gone out of sorts,or the laser head is damaged, but as it still plays blanks, then i would go for the first one.
you could get it repaired, but the cost is anyones guess.
have you tried a lense cleaner disc ?,they sometimes work.

Cheers. Not tried a cleaner. Thought it might be more of a problem than that. I'll give it a go and let you know outcome. Thanks again.

Re: Pioneer playback problem. Any ideas?

i have a Pioner DV-266 for 3 years now. Plays almost 99.9 % of the discs. Suddenly i had a similar problem - NO DISC. I tried a lot of cleaning CDs which didnt work. I contacted a friend of mine whow is an expert in audio-video. he recommneded that i open the player and manually clean the lens with a piece of cloth. There was huge amount of dirt on the lens. After i did that it worked fine.

Please note that you need to be very careful while cleaning the lens manually. DO NOT apply pressure, just lightly rub it.

Cheers for that Joey. Did you use just dry cloth tho' or some kind of cleaning solution? May give it a go when I dismantle the system to move it.

you can use Isopropyl alcohol, which is what some head cleaners/lense cleaners come with.
wipe it on in a circular manner, then let it evaporate.
