They seem pretty similar regarding connections etc, but the sony is 1000w but the yamaha is only 500w. Does this make any difference ? Which one is better ?

Quick replys needed if possible as i want to order soon !

Cheers.

Re: Purchasing either Yamaha 3101 or Sony Htss 1000, Which one ?

The chances of the Sony giving out 1000watts with a 100watt supply are very remote, what they should say is 1000watts capable but not all channels driven at the same time and by the way you may get 143watts from one channel but please do not use the others at the same time. The Yamaha would fair much better with a 230watt power supply but like all budget AV amps and more so all-in-ones they do rely on the fact that all channels will not be driven all the time.
I would imagine there is not a lot to choose between them, but if I had to get one it would be the Yamaha. UK Version from http://www.petertyson.co.uk/ebuttonz...ha/index.shtml

Hi i agree with other post , there is no way that amp can give 200w per channel, peak music power maybe ?
Yamaha are the leaders in av amps, sound brilliant in dolby digital , and musics very nice also , had plenty of yamaha stuff and love them,
Its bargain at that price, just looked that model up on google and think it could be even cheaper.

Go for the yamaha you wont be sorry.

Any reasons why i should get the uk version over the import with pixmania, as that one is black and the silver wouldn't go well in my living room.

http://www.petertyson.co.uk/ebuttonz...av61_dvd.shtml

Had a quick look at the above one, as i think this is a compromise of what i am looking for too, what is it like for music sound though? I know "size doesnt matter" but those speakers seem quite small and I am looking for a good sound for music playing as much as home cinema type stuff.....cheers for any help

I think the Sony HT-DDW890 may go louder out of these.

The AMP has a 200 watts power supply.

But the SUB needs its own plug to run so it dont run of the AMP.

This also says its 80 watts on the back.

the 80 watts is the amount of power it uses to run it, so it draws 80 watts from the power supply
