Philips HTS6510 - Sky Compatible?

Having done a bit of research, I am getting quite close to purchasing one of these all in ones but I've just noticed in a Currys Brochure that it says Sky Compatible - No. I will be getting Sky HD so naturally wanted a compatible system.

Can this really be true? Can anyone confirm this and whether there are any ways round it?

I looked at it too, but discounted it as it does not have an optical input.

I also want to connect a Sky HD to a new 2.1 home cinema, via the optical output on the Sky box.

Could be a reference to that.

Re: Philips HTS6510 - Sky Compatible?

Please help a newbie...

Looking at the spec for the HTS6510, it suggests that it has 1 x HDMI out (which I assume would connect straight into the Pioneer PDP-427XD which I am getting?).

The Philips also has a Dig Coaxial In - can I connect a Sky HD box via that? If so, would the sound be as hot as an Optical connection?

Thanks.

Yes you connect the Philips to your plasma TV via HDMI.

Re audio connection between Sky HD and the Philips box, the Sky HD has only an optical output or standard audio out ports. It does not have a coax output. However, I read elsewhere that you could possibly use a convertor to achieve this, someone cleverer than me might be able to advise on that.

Re: Philips HTS6510 - Sky Compatible?

Hi all,
I'm waiting for my Philips 42PF7621D to arrive (sometime this afternoon). I've taken the HC system out of the box and been reading the instructions. I note that it says in order to use the progressive scan use component video cables. 'The progressive scan video quality is only available using Y Pb Pr connection.' I bought a HDMI lead to connect from the HC to the tv believing that progressive scan was possible this way. Am i mistaken and do i need to go out and buy a component video connection?
Cheers,
Tony.
