Sony HT-DDW780

I know its only 5.1 but i bought this set-up the other day as its got everything i need , but when i set it up with the auto calibration its setting itself too low , i can put it up to max and its not even loud . I have connected it via optical to Sky HD and this has been my only sound test so far , do you think its because skyhd's output is low so therefore effecting the system volume ? I will be connecting it via optical to my PS3 later so ill see what the output is like then.
I did check the speaker levels which are set at -1 but i did use the auto callibration feature which ive read is the best method to get best results...any ideas or suggestions welcome..
