Pioneer XV-DV55 Loss of Sound

I have lost all sound from my Pioneer XV-DV55 DVD Home Cinema set-up, It all started with popping and very distorted and intermittent sound from the centre speaker, however since then all I have lost all sound from all speakers. All the setting are still in place and the unit operates as normal apart from the loss of sound. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated as this is a great little system and it'd shame to bin it for the sake of a simple fix, I am technically minded and have delved into audio visual repair before however this has got me totally stumped.

Re: Pioneer XV-DV55 Loss of Sound

Found the fault, It was dry joints on the Amplifier chip in the subwoofer. Re-soldered and now the system is as good as new , also fixed fault with the DVD drawer not staying open.

It was doing exactly that, basically it's a switch underneath the DVD drawer which tells the player when the drawer is fully open or closed and unfortunately if fills up with dirt and dust, hence becomes a common problem on this system.

If your good with electronics it isn't a problem and a fairly easy fix. If you PM me i'll try and describe what I did but you need to work with the system live/powered up, if you live local i'll gladly have a look at it for you but if it needs a new switch although I can get hold of them they aren't too cheap.

Re: Pioneer XV-DV55 Loss of Sound

Remove the casing, then remove the cover over the top of the DVD lense/drawer (held in by two screws, and has a caution sticker on it, if i remember right), power the DVD player up and press the open/close button the drawer should slide out and with a very gentle pull whilst it is opening will pull out from the front of the unit. You should then see what looks like a small blue lever, this is the problematic switch. I then disconnected power from the unit again, and with a vacuum and a clean/new paint brush removed all the dust and fluff from the unit. Powered the system up ( DO NOT LOOK AT THE LASER it lights up in the next step) and pressed the open/ close button whilst working the switch by hand, after a few attempts the switch worked as it should. I simply then placed the drawer back into the unit, by lineing it up and pressing the close button (If it doesn't close fully it hasn't lined up right, don't try to force it there is a channel on the bottom of the drawer and a sliding pin on the unit that have to line up). I am typing this all from memory so I may have missed something. If you have any problems though just drop me a PM.
