HELP Denon 500sd firmware update error

i really need some help please!
I installed the firmware upgrade that sasquatch had a link to, and confirm that it worked perfectly on my denon. All was going well...

However, my problem started when i left the disk near the player, a stupid mistake!! the disc ended up being put back into the denon - and when the missus didn't know what was happening switched the power off,
during the update!

I fear the firmware has been wiped. The disk is still in the tray - wont eject. Only message is MECHA ERR on the display. nothing displays on the tv. all buttons do nothin when on dvd function

Anyone with any ideas what i can do?? Is there anyway to perform a reset?

All help greatly appreciated

The only thing I could suggest is to un-plug the unit for at least twenty four hours as I believe this resets the system - although as the firmware was being updated I'm not sure what state the system will reset too? Worth a try though.

Hope it works out.

Nathan

Sounds like an e-mail to Denon then to say "Oooops, what shall I do?". I've always got a really fast response using this e-mail address (usually within hours):

denon.consumer.support@denon.co.uk

Women + technology = plenty of time tryin' to sort the mess out! I can't even remember the number of phone calls I've had from my missus that included the line "I don't know what happened, but it just stopped working...."

Ps. Sorry I can't offer any advice on the reset

Thanks nathan for the email address & your help- probably my best option.

judders - it was about the first time she has even used the denon!! Think she will be too scared to do anyhing in the future

worst thing though it was MY fault for not putting the disk away somewhere safe

nothing worse than breaking your favourite toy...

I've just been setting my 500SD up now... running through Lord of the Rings for a test and when I tried to eject after I got a lot of whirring and the same message 'Mech Err' .... aaaarrgghh

Any update on this? What did you end up doing? For info, the machine had been multiregioned by the retailer and had worked out of the box... albeit briefly!

lol... now sorted. Unplugged for 15 minutes, plugged back in and now OK. A bit worrying tho

Bit of luck. Left mine unplugged for 3 days with no change and ended up getting it replaced

Hmmm... thats a bit worrying really - if its done it once...

I'm glad I bought from Peter Tyson now as their return policy is less hassle than some others that were a similar price
