Any reviews of LG SR906 5.1 system?

I have seen the LG SR906 advertised in Richer Sounds and I am wondering if anybody here owns this or could point me in the direction of a review, as I can find very little info other than manufacturers blurb online?
LG SR906 Black | 5.1 Package System inc Speakers excluding DVD Player | Richer Sounds

Thanks in advance for any help that you can offer and if you recommnend something equal or better in a similar price bracket it would be greatly appreciated!

i have the lgsr906 and it sounds great. it was simple to set up and very powerful. The different settings are easy to change and the wires for connecting back speakers are long enough(about 5 meters) i am currently using the LG SR906 with an xbox 360, pc and tv. perchased it for £210 from richer sounds. i found that the auto calibration was the only let down as i felt the back speakers and bass was not loud enough. this problem was very quick and easy to fix using the manual set up.

Check out this advert though (line 6):

LG SR906 Bluray receiver | Flickr - Photo Sharing!

Looks like might not decode but should be able to play it if you player can do the decoding. I was unsure if it could so bought a yamaha instead, but still curious.

I too have been looking for reviews on the LG SR906.....there seems to be nothing about it anywhere???

Its now only £199.95 at Richer sounds.

LG SR906 Black | 5.1 Package System inc Speakers excluding DVD Player | Richer Sounds

Does anybody have one, or can anyone point me in the direction of a review???

I know its not its probably not the best, but I like because of its height and the fact it doesn't scream "I'M A AV AMPLIFIER!!" but will this point be it's failing as one of the only mentions I can find on the internet is it turns itself off after 30 mins

Thanks In Advance for any replies

poster 3 seems to have one and like it.

I think LG have been making some good home cinema systems, might not be as good a the onkyo s3405 (£50 more), but I suspect its a lot better than most all-in-ones. As you say its a half height AV, very rare thing so if that's important give it a try out at home, pretty sure richer sounds will exchange it if you don't like it.

Will both my Sony BDP-S370 Blu ray player and my PS3 decode the HD audio to play through the LG?

The slim PS3 can do so for sure, and the spec for your bluray player looks good too.......

Out of interest, does anyone know if you can assign one of the optical inputs to an HDMI channel - so that I could hook up sky HD via HDMI and use the optical connection to get surround sound?

I got one from amazon and it sounded great but after a few weeks it developed annoying clicking from random speakers so it went back. I'm thinking about buying it again though

Its just an amp and speakers, no blu-ray or dvd player.

How would I connect my Sky+ box to this AV Receiver? I currently use Scart as it isn't a HD box but it doesn't advertise a Scart in slot so what are my options?
Thanks

scart from sky to TV and optical from sky to amp to get surround sound.

Although do the old sky boxes output anything above stereo audio? Can you get a sky HD box? Even if you don't subscribe to skyHD you'll get the free HD channels (bbc, itv C4 etc) which have 5.1, and it has HDMI out. Plenty cheap in the classifieds. I'm assuming you have an HD TV already.

I'm well chuffed.
All I wanted was surround sound for the SkyHD box, it does that perfectly for my needs with an optical and a HDMI connection
I've also got the DVD player running, just with a HDMI.

The only slight niggle is that it doesnt have a red/white/yellow connection, so as far as I'm aware, I cant run the wii through it, it has red and white, so there might be a way.

The red and white will deal with the wii audio, so you might need to extend the yellow video directly to the tv....

Sorry to revive an old thread, but I'm so unknowledgeable in this area.

I have an LG LM660t tv and a LG BD660 bluray player...
Will this av system give me surround sound from the tv as well as the bluray player?

I also have virgin media V+ cable box, will I get surround sound from that?
How do these things connect together? All HDMI?

Sorry for the dumb questions

I go from the blue ray to the SR906 and then frm the 906 to the tvs ARC hdmi - this one cable then sends the blueray to the tv and also the tvs sound to the 906 wher upon IF the signal is 5.1 then you get 5.1 out of your speakers.
I only have freeview with 4 hd chanels and only somtimes do they broadcast in 5.1 --- mainly big events and mainly the bbc.
But if there is no 5.1 broadcast then the 906 will just divy up the sound to all the speakers without it being in surround.
If you do not have a ARC marked hmdi on the tv then you use a optical cable from the tv to the amp.
When using the amp you have to presson the amp remote tv or BD to tel the amp that is the input you want

Yeah, I have an HDMI marked as ARC (& 2 'normal' & 1 'PC') and the TV also has an optical out......

So the options are:

Connect the cable box and blu-ray player into the SR906 and have a single HDMI to the TV (ARC connection).
Negative of this is that to select input on the TV, I'd have to use the SR906 remote to select source I guess and always have the SR906 on..? Then again I guess it's Simplink compatible.....

Connect the optical out to the SR906 so it always outputs whatever audio it's supplied with, from whichever HDMI input I select on the TV.
A negative of this is that it could cause sync issues?? (I guess why there's an ARC connection..) or are there other reasons not to go this (I guess my preferred) route?

This is the first TV I've had with HDMI, so a bit unsure what data gets transferred across cables; I guess 'everything', so the TV would get all available audio channels and forward them out on optical...?

Not an expert on audio but on mine
I use the ARC (audio return channel) that way you use cheeper short cables from your bits and bobs to the amp and 1 long cable to the ARC on the tv normal hdmi sockets only allow one direction --the arc sockets allows the audio to go both directions thats how i get the normal tv sound to my 5.1 speakers for a better sound than the tvs speakers. And remember it will only be 5.1 if the broard cast is 5.1

I can not get the simplink to work if i have the tv on and start a movie, the movie plays and the sound seems to be simplink but not the vision. I then have to select the source on the tv remote and then play the movie from the start again.

Yes with the arc option the receiver needs to be on - you will not be able to watch a movie or play a game without it on (but why would you want to not have 5.1)
It does not have some kind of passive pass through - it has to be powered. But if you are useing your cable box and it is not broadcasting in 5.1 then I suppose it is not worth it as you say your receiver will also need to be on too just to get any sound

In your case you could do both - have the dvd player use the arc as that is always a 5.1 source. And have your cable box direct to the tv with an optical to the receiver for when there is somthing on that is in 5.1
On the other hand if you have young kids and they want to watch somthing it will be a faf as the receiver will need to be on and im sure they would of been happy with just the tvs speakers for ben10 or whatever

Cheers for that, will just buy the unit and play around - at least there are a couple of options.. Will try both and see what's most effective for my use

Why would I not want 5.1 sound?
Not me, but the wife complains it's too loud, etc.. guess I could turn it down a bit

Thanks again for the info.

The wife's will get used to it......assure them you are the expert in the acoustics....

My misses would hate it without the surround sound, even when just watching the tv......

I have never heard anything.
Its not like it is a masive thing and very powerfull to need a big fan.
Not even sure if the fan is on low at all times or it just comes on if it gets too hot

Now have this from Richer Sounds - £179.. very pleased - and the wife hasn't complained (much) - Apart from the fact the sound drops out when it switches modes - ie when adverts come one - I'm using ARC with bluray & stb connected through the TV - this way I can virtually ignore the extra remote (SR comes on automatically a few seconds after the TV is turned on). Would be nice if I could have the TV speakers on as backup during those quiet moments... any ideas? Would an optical link allow me to do this (TV is lm660t - same as lm670t but black bezel).

I had this problem - info at this link sorted it:

Crackling Sounds from LG Home Cinema Speakers

No problems now at all.
