How to get surround sound with a Xbox 360 / HTS 3500S soundsystem / LG 42LG30D TV?

Hey guys,

I recently bought a high-definition component cable for my Xbox 360, but I can't get my surround sound to work! I've got a HTS 3500S soundsystem and LG 42LG30D television set.

Everything is dandy, but I cannot get my Xbox 360 to run in surround sound, only through the TV. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

The only cables coming out of my Xbox 360 is the component cable, which has five prongs, all plugged into the back of the TV, in the component 1 port. Do I need to buy more cables? Help!

you either need to connect the red/white parts of the component lead, to the surround, and live with stereo, with rear echo(depending on what sound field you pick on the surround, like pro-logic), or you need to buy an optical - coax convertor, an optical lead, and a coax lead, to get 5.1 from your system with the 360..

the 360's output is optical, but your system has a coax in for AUX connections, thus the need for a convertor, and extra leads.

all in, you are looking at spending around £15 delivered :

optical - coax convertor

optical audio lead

coax audio cable
