Optical Switch question...

hi

ive got the Panasonic SC-PT860 all-in-one surround sound system, a PS3, and Sky HD

as the surround sound only has one optical connection, ive linked it all together with the standard optical switch connector

all was working fine up until recently - ive had it all connected and working for about 7 months - but no there is no sound from either source when they are selected

ive tried swapping the cables around, as i thought when they have been tangled they may become damaged (not sure if you can actually damage the optical cables?) but that didnt work, and ive tried connecting via different switch numbers on the optical switch but this hasnt worked

finally, ive connected the PS3 or SKY HD direct to the surround sound and this works perfectly - so its obvious the switch is broken in some way

is it possible that these can just become broken? its had a bit of use but nothing serious or rough in the time ive had it

i got it off eBay but its worked perfectly for so long i cant send it back now

any ideas? would i be easier if i just wet to audio visual and bought with a receipt so i could take it back should a new one not work (but i cant see why it wouldnt)

im just a bit confused and puzzled and fed up after messing about with the wires etc!!!

any help/advice appreciated

cheers

Deep breath. Just check all your cables without the switch. If they are all okay just bite the bullet and buy a new switch and all will be fine.

yes it is as you assume, mine was about £4.50 too

thats what i cant understand, how can it work one day but then suddenly stop the next?

mine connects as follows: -

surround sound to switch with optical cable
switch position 1 to Sky HD with optical cable
switch position 3 to PS3 with optical cable

doesnt matter if i switch cables around, or switch positions, no sound from either - but if i connect either PS3 of Sky directly to surround with optical cable it works perfectly (just watchin the footy with it now!)

just a pain in the bum moving the cables if i want a to kill people on MW2!!
