newbie alert,, home cinema kit advice needed please

evening all

i'm looking for a new surround sound kit as my old pioneer one isn't doing what i want it to do

what i'm after is something i can plug my Sky HD box, XBOX 360, and Samsung 42 plasma into and get get the full 5.1 surround that i'm supposed to

My current pioneer only has a stereo input so i'm obviously only getting 2.1 unless i'm watching a DVD which to be honest is extremely rare,

I'd prefer Samsung but thats only because (i'm guessing) i will be able to adjust volume with my existing remote control....

any help greatly appreciated

I've been investigating the panasonic sc-bt200 recently. I just might buy it, I want to watch dvd's, blue ray, standard digital and play xbox through it, it seems to be suitable for that.

Panasonics generally do what it says on the tin. They do it well but are reknowned for poor connectivity for external devices. So expect decent playback and sound from the BR player supplied and if you intend connecting anything else check carefully that it can be connected AND that the amplifier will fully decode the audio signal.
It appears this system is fully iPod compatible which is good.
There was an issue with the DVD systems that allegedly would not decode 5.1 DTS received from external BR players over Optical.
