Samung HT-TZ325R - my brain is hurting!

Hi everyone,

Please can someone help me before I take my own life!

We've just bought the Toshiba 46XV635DB LCD TV. After looking at various all in one systems I like the look of the Samsung HT-TZ325R

What I am not sure of is whether we'll able to get audio from the TV to play on the Samsung kit.

Can anyone advise on how these two connect together so that we get both DVD playing on the surround sound kit and the TV too.

If it helps the Toshiba has 3 HDMI slots and an optical digital audio output slot.

There is no SKY, cable or gaming consoles involved either - we're sad that way

Ta very much.

Hi,
From what you have said you will be able to get sound from the TV to your home cinema system. You can connect via optical from TV to H/cinema And via hdmi from H/cinema to tv.
It is worth pointing out though that you will only get true 5.1 D/D surround sound from a D/D source ( D/D = dolby digital ). This would be any dvd that you are watching through your H/cinema that has a 5.1 soundtrack.
I am unsure how many of the TV channels you get through your TV will broadcast in 5.1 sound though. I suspect most would just be stereo.
Your H/cinema would enable you to convert a stereo signal into pseudo surround - sound from all H/cinema speakers - though this would not be true 5.1 sound.

Hope that helps ?

Good Luck.

Hi Nobby,

Thank you for your reply - I appreciate it and I think I understand the points you made.

I am thinking abouy adding the Panasonic DMR-EX769EB-K to the mix. It is a 160GB HDD and DVD recorder with Freeview+.

Can you or anyone confirm my understanding of how these would be linked:

I imagine that the coax cable would first connect to the Panasonic HHD and DVD recorder and another coax cable from this machine into the arial in socket of the TV.

This means the Panasonic can record TV channels and the Toshiba telly will also get the channels for viewing.

The Samsung home cinema wouldn't need any coax cable in or out of it because it is only being used to play DVD's.

I don't know where all the HDMI cables go - from where to where - to get the surround sound from both the Samsung home cinema and the Panasonic recorder.

With this set up I have a home cinema surround system coupled up to something that can record programs. Also if I should ever want to what VHS tapes I think I could just link the VHS player via SCART.

I know there's a lot to take in but if anyone could advise on my though process I'd appreciate it.

aerial - HDD recorder/dvd recorder - aerial - TV.
HDD recorder/dvd recorder - HDMI - TV.
Samsung surround - HDMI - TV.
HDD recorder/dvd recorder - Optical audio lead - Samsung surround.
TV - analogue audio(red.white phonos) - Samsung surround.

thats pretty much it in a nutshell...but any kit you are getting, go to the respective sites and download and READ the manuals..thats what they are there for, it helps explain a lot.

Many thanks for your reply and sorry not not acknowledging it sooner.

I think you've answered my question in a nutshell.

I have downloaded a couple of manuals but for someone not acquainted with how to get the best out of surround systems and HDMI and optical output this that and t'other it can take some working out.

I have searched the t'internet for over a week for an easy guide on how best to set up HD TV's with surround sounds systems and other things like HDD DVD combos and have not come across anything.

Thanks again.
