Can I use existing wires for new speakers?

I've just bought an LG HT554PH. To save me lifting and replacing carpets, I wondered if it's possible to use the existing wires from my older panasonic system? Would the speakers still deliver the same sound quality or should I just lift the carpet!!.

Thanks to those who have answered my other questions over the last wee while and thanks in advance for any help with this one.

IMHO any speaker wire would do the same job, in this scenario I would happily reuse the existing cable to avoid lifting the carpet.

Perhaps the one proviso is, if the LG has special plugs for speakers, rathers than bare wire, as it will mean cutting & splicing resulting in joins. I hate joins.
