A Sony system without a receiver, just an active sub and speakers. Did I imagine it?

Can't seem to find one anywhere but thought I'd recently seen a Sony Home Cinema kit but it didn't have a receiver - everything connected to the sub. Did I imagine it? I currently have the Acoustic Energy Aego 5 system that I still love and brother wants something 'similar' that does the job but doesn't need a big receiver/amp under the TV too. What's recommended then?
