Is it worth getting an all in one with a blu-ray player built in?

Is it worth getting an all in one with a blu-ray player built in?

I've been looking at getting the Sony HT-SS360, but came across the Sony BDV-E300 which has a built in blu-ray player. It got me thinking if it's worth spending abit more for it?

Would anyone be kind enough to have a look at these links and let me know if they're the same spec? (bar the blu-ray player)

I'm not being lazy, I'm just not the most technically minded with surround sound, there's so many figures/stats!

HT- SS360 (HT SS360) : Technical Specifications : Home Cinema & Hi-Fi : Sony

BDV-E300 (BDVE300) : Home Cinema & Hi-Fi : Sony

I read in a post on the forums that the HT-SS360 was capable of decoding HD sound but on the spec list it says: "DTS HD / Dolby®TruHD / Dolby® Digital+ - NO / NO / NO"

The negatives I can think of is that if the blu-ray player isn't very good, then well, I'm pretty much stuck with it.

Another argument is that I already have a PS3, so do i really need it? Of course one problem with the PS3 is that the fan noise would irritate me when watching a film.

Hi again.
From a quick read I would not touch the BR all in one as there are no connections for external HDMI devices.
As I say, a quick read.
The fan on the PS3 got to me, that's why I bought the 350. That and because I wanted to see DTS-MA light up the display.

Ok thanks Tom.

So out of those two I'd be better off going with the HT-SS360?

Does it decode HD sound via a HDMI cable? Like I mentioned in my original post, I've read that it does, but on the spec list it suggests that it doesn't

EDIT* Actually after reading another post, I think I'm right in saying the amp won't decode HD audio, but if your blu-ray player can decode it, then it will output HD audio.

Yes, just set the Blu-Ray player to output PCM over HDMI you will be getting HD-Audio on the SS360.
You just need to make sure you pick a Blu-Ray player that has onboard decoding of TrueHD & DTS-MA.

Which, as far as I remember the PS3 does.

Yes, you're right

Looks like I'll be going for that one now then, unless something new that's better comes out in the next few weeks!
