Friend of mine quite fancies getting 5.1, but doesn't want to go down the AVR + speakers route. All he wants s a simple, and small, box to control the audio and some small satellite speakers that aren't obtrusive. He isn't an AV freak, and doesn't really crank the volume, just wants a bit of rumble for explosions and bullets/planes wizzing around all over the place!
All he has to plug into it is a PS3 (which is connected to the (Sony) LCD via HDMI), and I'd guess he'd like to plug the TV into it aswell when using the TV's inbuilt Freeview. Possibly might get Sky at some point, but also might just go for Freesat. So I'm guessing unless it's HDMI equipped, the "control" part of this system needs to just have a bunch of optical inputs (one for the PS3, I think the TV has optical out, possibly only stereo RCA), and another optical for either Sky or Freesat for the future...
Anyone know of anything like that? I've always gone the AVR + speakers route so I don't have a clue where to start!
