How much power do I need for an amp? My living room is approximately 12' X 12'. I would sit probably 6" to 7' from the speakers.

At this point I want an amp for first for music. I thought a stereo amplifier would be better for music than a surround sound amp. At least this is what I have read (surround amps were designed for primarily for home theater). Am I thinking correctly on this?
