The ps3 will only output sound via HDMI OR Optical. If you've got sound outputting over HDMI to telly that should be job done (i.e. no need to play with optical settings). That's my understanding anyway

The pro logic to me says that the amp is receiving a two channel signal. I'm not sure DVD's and Games have the lossless audio encoded in them so that makes sense to me, which is why your amp gets 5.1 sound with them. Again I'm sure there's more to it than that but hopefully de-selecting in the ps3 menu will sort it
