Plasterboard is fine. The best thing is to try and find a stud for at least one side of the bracket to fix to. As for the other side get special platerboard fixings. If no stud then use these for both sides.

I have used these many a times when installing kitchen units to plasterboard walls where no joists were found among other things. Very easy to use. just position the wall mount where you want it mark the drill positions and drill holes. then put these fixings in and screw in until tight. then take screw out and put bracket on and then screw in tight. i have used this in my extension part as i could only get one side to tie into studs. you will not be able to mount a crt with these but an lcd will be no problem for this.
