One dimbo question to ask regarding upscalling via componant inputs. I have a denon dvd player connected this way and according to the dvd instruction book i should set my TV to progessive scan mode. I guess this is done automatically as i can't find any reference to this in the TV manual.

That's right, the TV detects all modes automatically - be it PAL, NTSC, PAL Progressive, NTSC Progressive etc. You'll see the screen adjust and "480p" or "576p" appear at the top left.
