Ref my kaput Tivo - VM are refusing to consider any remedy whatsoever - any route to possibly recover/copy my data ('cos it's not my data, is it) or even attempt to repair the unit. Their only response is "we'll replace it"

Despite VM being restricted by the deals they have had to with rights holders, it is still utterly unacceptable for VM to
a) not exert greater efforts to try to assist a customer who finds himself in my situation
b) not explain to people that their data is not protected and not protectable - that they should not rely on their recordings to persist
c) Write on their Tivo web page "Equipment & free repairs: Equipment remains property of Virgin Media. Sky customers own their own boxes. We rent our TV boxes to you completely free. That’s why we can offer you free servicing and repairs (excluding misuse and mistreatment) for as long as you’re a customer, not just your first 12 months." leading customers to think that "repairs" are possible. (I have been told that repairs are not conducted on customer boxes - they are only replaced. Any repairs/refurbs happen later and boxes are put back into the pool for installation)

Frankly I don't know why they aren't shouting it from the rooftops - had I known, I'd have paid for 2 Tivos and programmed both identically - as the best (only ) backup method.

Anyway, apart from installing 2 VM Tivos, what would anyone recommend as other external PVR devices to attach to any VM cable box (and how) so as to get my recordings back under MY control?
