I admit my opinion of this player has been tainted by it breaking when almost new. And subsequently not playing some discs like a new DVD of Rio.
But IMO the problems go deeper than that. The GUI is woeful. Both my 100 quid Pana and Sony bd players knock it into touch for user interface. Also factor in how long it takes to respond. Not just loading discs but responding to remote commands like play or pause. Mine is also blinded by the 3d ir signal from my 3d projector so I have to stand in front of it to get it to respond.
The picture. To be honest I have not been impressed. I did a back to back test with the same disc (for some reason I have two copies of I am Legend) started at the same scene (vertical pan of manhattan) into my VT55. The only difference was the hdmi. Both good cables but one Wireworld and one Chord. The result ? Vertical motion was better handled (smoother) with the Pana. I was gutted.
Then went to play ripped cd's from my NAS. Not a prime function but had assumed I would use the Denon to avoid buying a dedicated streamer. Won't play FLACs yet Denons AVRs do ? Go figure.
On the plus side colours are excellent and sound is great.
Many people are happy with theirs but if I were you I would demo a few others. My search will continue.
