in terms of living with bars. you will get bars on a normal tv, for cinescope or 4:3 material.

its swings and roundabouts.

but the 21:9 is a two in one TV in terms of what it can do, a 16:9 TV is one in one TV.

another month till the new one is on sale anyway, so you have some time to think

from what you mention you will be using it for, the 9955 seems good at its lower price point.

paying a premium for the newer model, maybe for some stuff which you wont use over and above the 9955 ??

if i was buying now, i would definitely get the cheaper 9955 and use the rest of the money toward a decent video scaler, lumagen or similar. and get it ISF calibrated.

that way you will end up with way better pic quality than a 9956 out of the box.
