The firmware is already "iPlayer-ready" (the MHEG engine was upgraded in the November update), but from what has been posted by others (JeffD & petrev in particular) , the DTG have introduced a new specification/standard which all such PVRs must pass before the functionality can be switched on by the BBC. AIUI, with the updated firmware, the DS meets these specs but just needs to get approval by the DTG. DS are talking to the relevant bodes.
Then we would need the BBC to do what it needs to do ......
