I can see your point. What doesn't help is some movies are still exclusive-only (Avatar 3D will be exclusive to Panasonic tv/blu-ray player purchases till next year for one). But that's also why I picked a Samsung, as they use a reportedly pretty decent 2D to 3D conversion mode to watch normal 2D tv or movies in 3D. Nothing will pop out at u, but apparently can give a decent perception of depth in the picture.
