If you are spending that kind of money I would take all the time you need and some! Don't feel bad.
I can't comment much more about the pl200 as I've never heard it. I do still find it strange that it sounded so bad. I can fully understand if you prefer the sound of a different make, we all have different tastes, but I've never heard a MA speaker that sounds rubbish for its price point.
The fact that you like the MA family sound (ie the gs20/60) makes it even more difficult to explain.
It will be interesting to see what you end up with.
