Re: Nikon/Canon warranty on 2nd hand equipment

With Nikon you get a year from the date you bought the camera ( date on receipt or invoice which you might have to produce in the event of a claim) and a year on top from a company called Homeserve, providing the camera was supplied by Nikon Uk ( ie not a grey import). The warranty is not transferrable and only applies to the original owner.

I'm looking at purchasing some expensive kit and want to save some money, but I would also would want some fallback if it all went pear shaped.

So if a seller says a D700 or 5DMkII was purchased 9 months ago, but they never registered it, would the next owner be able to register it?

I know these warranties are not strictly transferable.

Assume the gear was purchased in the UK and not a grey import.

Are third party warranties any good ?

Thanks
